Deemed Universities in India
Deemed universities in India are institutions recognized for their high academic standards and specialized focus areas. They are granted the status of “deemed-to-be-university” under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. This designation allows them to enjoy the privileges and autonomy of a university, enabling them to design their own courses and syllabi.
These institutions cover a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, management, medical sciences, humanities, and more. They play a significant role in expanding higher education opportunities in the country and fostering research and innovation. As of now, there are over 120 deemed universities in India.
